CAPA is proud to spotlight Christie Blackwell, a retired Canadian Armed Forces Physician Assistant whose career embodies leadership, resilience, and service to others.

From postings across Canada to deployments in Afghanistan and Latvia, Christie’s work reflects the dedication and adaptability that define the Physician Assistant profession. Throughout her military service, she provided vital medical care in demanding environments, often under extraordinary pressure — demonstrating the professionalism and compassion that make PAs an essential part of Canada’s healthcare system.

Today, Christie continues her mission to serve through her work with 24/7 Occupational & Emergency Medicine Solutions Inc. (OEMS), a subsidiary of Bayshore HealthCare’s Staffing Division. In this role, she delivers critical care in remote and resource-limited communities across Canada, supporting both patients and fellow healthcare professionals.

In the first photo, Christie (right) leads a field-based medical training session with NATO partners in Latvia, using a water bottle and tape to teach Cricothyrotomy — an emergency procedure used to restore breathing when the airway is blocked. This moment captures her resourcefulness, mentorship, and deep commitment to improving emergency care in any setting.

CAPA is honoured to recognize Christie Blackwell for her outstanding contributions to the PA profession, her continued service to Canadians, and her lasting impact on the communities she supports.
