New submission

consultation on the modernization of controlled substances Survey

Health Canada has initiated an open consultation on the modernization of controlled substances, intending to update regulatory provisions related to hospitals and practitioners.  Health Canada is seeking input about realities in delivering health care, including any gaps or barriers that may stem from the existing provisions concerning activities related to controlled substances in various healthcare settings, and any solutions for overcoming them.

CAPA has formed a working group to provide comments on PAs being added as an authorized practitioner to conduct activities with controlled substances, including the prescribing of authorized medicines containing controlled substances. Feedback to Health Canada was given during Phase I of the consultation.

CAPA will have another opportunity to elaborate during the second phase of the consultation.

To strengthen our second submission, we are in the process of reaching out to associations, regulators, government, and universities to request letters of support. We are also asking members to provide examples of how prescribing rights are applicable in your practice as a PA. The most relevant/moving examples will be used.
