Sean Kelcey, CCPA
Sean was born in Toronto, but after living in a variety of other places, eventually settled in Victoria, BC. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Regular Force in 1988, after 2 years in the Primary Reserve, serving as a Medical Assistant/Medical Technician in various bases and roles until graduating from the CAF PA Program in 2008. Sean served as a Primary Care and Diving Medicine PA for 3 years in Victoria until retiring from the Regular Force in 2011, transferring back to the Primary Reserve. Upon leaving, he took a position in Family Medicine in MacGregor, MB, where he worked remotely from his supervising physician as the medical provider for the town. In 2014, Sean moved to Selkirk, MB, working in the Emergency Department and continues to work there. He also became involved with Physician and Clinical Assistants of Manitoba as a Regional Representative for his Regional Health Authority.
I have two issues that I feel are needed to fulfill within my mandate if elected. The first is to consolidate and expand PA utilization within Alberta and Manitoba. The governments need to be made aware of the costs vs. benefits of PAs in all aspects of health care; particularly, I’d like to work on increasing levels of responsibility in rural ER’s/Primary Care. The second issue to work on is bringing PAs to Saskatchewan and Nunavut, which may well be an uphill climb, but I think a worthwhile challenge to help bring high levels of health care to underserved areas of our country. Regular, ongoing dialogue with provincial/territorial governments and regulatory bodies will be needed.
