BC Advocacy Day

BC Advocacy Day

April 11, 2024 from 11:30am to 1:30pm EDT
Parliament Buildings, Victoria BC V8V 1X4 Canada

PROGRESS

In the fall of 2023, the government of British Columbia announced PAs were able to practice in emergency departments in the province, a monumental step towards improving the delivery of healthcare.

CAPA is pleased to be at the forefront of this transformative change, having met with the BC Ministry to provide information and access to resources. CAPA also supported Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC in a webinar they hosted for their members clarifying how PAs practice. A recording of the webinar can be found here. We are also currently in the planning stages of developing a similar webinar tailored for physicians, in collaboration with Doctors of BC. And we are pleased to share that the first PA job was posted with 24/7 OEMS to be located at the Saanich Peninsula hospital.

LOBBY DAY

To continue our education efforts of the PA role, CAPA is organizing an Advocacy Day in Victoria on Thursday, April 11th from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM PST in the Hall of Honour. We would be delighted if you were able to join us for the event.

During this time, we will call on the government to:

1.Regulate PAs under the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

2.Secure funding for the hiring of 50 PAs over the next three years.

3.Collaborate with stakeholders to identify areas where PAs can have the greatest impact.

4.Develop a PA Education Program at UBC or SFU to begin training homegrown PAs.

Should you wish to confirm your participation, receive information related to the implementation of PAs or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to the opportunity to work together in realizing the full potential of PAs in BC. Together, we can contribute to a more efficient, accessible, and patient-centred healthcare system.
