Workshop: Wound Care Assessment & Long-Term Management
November 6, 2025 from 1:00pm MST to 4:00pm MST
This 2.5–3-hour interactive workshop is designed for Physician Assistants who want to advance their wound care expertise in both acute and chronic care settings. Through a blend of hands-on practice, case-based learning, and procedural simulation, participants will refine their ability to assess wounds, perform essential techniques, and make evidence-based dressing and management decisions.
The workshop is delivered in a round-robin station format to maximize participation and skill application. Each station focuses on a specific core competency—incision and drainage, wound assessment with dressing selection, and documentation with long-term care planning—ensuring a well-rounded learning experience that participants can apply immediately in clinical practice.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Perform a focused wound assessment and document findings using standardized clinical tools (e.g., T.I.M.E. model, PUSH tool).
- Recognize wound characteristics including staging, exudate levels, and red flags for infection or tissue compromise.
- Demonstrate incision and drainage (I&D) technique in a simulated environment, applying correct aseptic setup and procedural steps.
- Select and justify appropriate advanced dressing products based on wound type, moisture balance needs, and healing stage.
- Develop a long-term wound care plan incorporating patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and referral criteria.
