Workshop: Practical Procedures in the ED
November 6, 2025 from 9:00am MST to 12:00pm MST
There are many HALO (High Acuity, Low Opportunity) procedures that arise in the practice of Emergency Medicine. Depending on your location of practice, it could be months or even years between cases that involve one of these procedures. This makes high-fidelity practice of these skills vital to ensure you’re ready when the need arises.
As PAs, being familiar with the process positions us to at least be a competent second set of hands for our physician colleagues, and ideally the competent set of hands performing the skill itself.
This session is designed to provide guided, hands-on practice with intubations and the insertion of central venous catheters using high-fidelity models in a controlled environment. The small group size will ensure a more personal approach. Participants will be divided into two groups to rotate through both stations. There will be a brief lecture to provide background and relevant information for each station, followed by a brief demonstration. The bulk of the time will be spent with hands-on practice facilitated by practicing ER physicians and PAs.
