Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has announced a new Master of Physician Assistant Studies program.
The new MPAS program is a two-year, full-time professional master’s program designed to prepare future Physician Assistants for collaborative, physician-led practice. According to Western, students will gain the knowledge and practical experience needed to assess, diagnose, treat, and support patients across diverse health care settings.
The program is intended to prepare graduates to work in physician-led teams and provide patient-centered medical care across hospitals, primary care, emergency medicine, and specialty services.
Applications for the September 2026 intake are open from June 8 to July 13, 2026. Western has noted that the program remains subject to formal approval.
The announcement also reflects the broader impact of sustained advocacy to expand PA education and training capacity in Ontario. CAPA has continued to identifyincreased PA training opportunities as a key priority for supporting the growth of the profession and strengthening team-based health care.
Ontario’s investment in up to 150 new PA training seats has helped create the pathway for expanded PA education in the province. Western’s new MPAS program is expected to welcome 30 students as part of this broader provincial commitment, representing a meaningful step forward for PA education in Canada.
As health systems continue to face growing pressures, expanding PA education and training capacity remains an important part of strengthening health care teams and supporting timely access to patient care.
