Dua Abbas
Dua is paving the way for Physician Assistants (PAs) in Saskatchewan, where she holds the unique distinction of being the first PA at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Working in Pediatric Cardiology, Dua brings not only clinical excellence but also a deep passion for education, mentorship, and advancing the PA profession in Canada.
Originally from California, Dua earned her PA degree at Yale University, one of the most prestigious programs in North America. Her professional journey eventually brought her north, where she now contributes to Saskatchewan’s evolving healthcare system and serves as a mentor to PA students on both sides of the border.
This fall, Dua will begin instructing in the University of Saskatchewan’s Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program, where she also serves as co-lead for PA professionalism. Her leadership is helping shape the next generation of Canadian PAs, ensuring they enter the workforce with not just clinical skill, but a strong foundation in ethics and professionalism.
Outside the hospital and classroom, Dua embraces life with a spirit of adventure. She enjoys drinking matcha, scuba diving, and travelling, and she lives in Saskatoon with her husband Syed, a Radiology resident at Royal University Hospital.
Dua’s story is a powerful example of how Physician Assistants are transforming care in communities across Canada.
