As governments work to address challenges and improve health systems, Physician Assistants (PAs) should be considered a key part of the solution.
To spread the word that PAs across Canada help to strengthen healthcare teams and expand access to care for patients, we developed AdvoKit, a new AI-powered tool to help make it easy for you to write to your elected government officials.
The tool allows the user the opportunity to tailor their letter by answering a few questions. The letter also asks officials to recognize PAs and our essential role in healthcare by using the hashtag #CanadaDeservesPAs on their social media channels. A request to meet could also be included if the sender chose. It only takes a couple minutes to make a difference, so don’t wait.
This Advocacy Toolkit serves as a comprehensive resource designed to empower PAs, healthcare professionals, and supporters to effectively advocate for the advancement and recognition of the PA profession in Canada. This toolkit provides essential materials, to facilitate meaningful dialogue with Healthcare partners, Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs), ministers, government officials, and other decision-makers. These resources can be utilized to advocate for crucial priorities, such as increased funding for training spots, enhanced compensation for PAs, and supportive policy changes that further integrate PAs across healthcare settings. The toolkit includes resources to clearly communicate the role of PAs and their significant impact on improving healthcare access, reducing wait times, and supporting physician-led teams. Given the ongoing challenges in Canada’s healthcare system, such as provider shortages and rising patient demands, this advocacy toolkit is essential in articulating the need for regulatory frameworks, sustainable funding models, and broader deployment of PAs. By leveraging these resources, stakeholders can help drive forward legislative and policy changes that will strengthen the role of PAs, ensuring they are fully recognized and effectively utilized within Canada's healthcare landscape.
