On June 13, 2015 students from the McMaster Physician Assistant Education Program participated in Relay for Life. The team – ‘PAs for Cancer Cure’ – raised over $1200 in just a few short months ($374 from a class-wide bake sale!) for the Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC)! This year’s funds are going towards the purchase of a new anaesthesia machine for the JCC, to improve quality of patient care.
The day of the Relay was fantastic! The great weather brought together health care professionals, community members, cancer survivors and their families. The staff of the JCC have an overwhelming enthusiasm for the event, with individual teams raising over $10,000! The McMaster PA students hope that this year will be the first of many years of raising awareness of the PA profession, and supporting a great cause! They hope that their participation in Relay for Life will inspire other PAs (staff and students) to participate in a Relay near them!
